Broadcasters are transitioning from a linear to a non-linear world. This is true for both the programmes they offer to their audience and for the way they handle content. Many media organizations have created their own software developer teams to address these challenges. Key to achieving this transition are broadband and personalization.

This year’s annual EBU Developer's Conference (EBU DevCon) will focus on how best to address the changing media landscape in relation to software development. The two-day workshop is an opportunity for managers and developers to come together and get hands-on with current development and deployment tools and best practice. Participants will pick up new ideas on how to run software-driven broadcast infrastructures and how to improve their engineering workflows and team organization. Other key topics include:

  • How to create an agile development culture?
  • How to manage user identities and offer audiences personalized content?
  • How to orchestrate cloud infrastructure and containers?
  • How to deal with security?
  • How to support journalists with big data research tools?
Industry leaders from software companies, such as PayPal, Mozilla and New Relic, will present their perspectives on these topics. EBU Members and SCRUM co-inventor Ken Schwaber will also take to the stage to present and answer any further queries you may have in this domain. Hands-on sessions each day will ensure that managers and developers go home happy with practical results that can be used in everyday situations.

On the eve of Day 1, participants will also have the unique opportunity to partake in a special evening session. Hear more about the most recent start-up experiences from the VRT-EBU-iMinds ‘Sandbox’ initiative which aims to speed up media innovation through smart cooperation and co-creation between public and private organizations. The recently awarded “Live IP” project is one of the Sandbox innovative projects.
