Tutorials @ NTS 2013
At 16:00 on Day 1 of NTS 2013 a set of parallel tutorials was held. Click the links below to download the presentations.
5/6 Video over IP (PDF) (1 hour)
Yuan-Xing Zheng, BBC & Andrew Rayner, Nevion
This tutorial will be of interest to those who consider the opportunity of falling costs in 10GbE connectivity to enable transport of uncompressed HD over IP. You will learn more about the latest industry standard, SMPTE 2022-5/6. The topic of interoperability will be explored in more detail, based on the results of EBU testing that will have taken place at the BBC. The tutorial will explore the capabilities of broadcast equipment in this domain and highlight the problems that were discovered during the tests. Best practice recommendations will be given.
Beyond HD & Infrastructures (PDF) (1.5 hour)
This tutorial will provide a "101" insight on next generation TV formats beyond HDTV (UHD-1/2 a.k.a 4k/8k) and the implications they have for the network. In order to efficiently deliver and store such high bandwidth content, new codecs have been designed, in addition to higher capacity network interfaces. This tutorial will give an overview of UHDTV and its parameters, an insight into HEVC (what’s different from AVC / H.264) and its performance for UHD-1, and a snapshot of the forthcoming network interfaces.
Audio networking protocols AES-X192 (PDF) (1.5 hour)
Kevin Gross, AVA Networks
The networking and telecommunication industry has its own set of network protocols for carriage of audio over IP networks. These protocols have been widely deployed for telephony and teleconferencing applications and internet streaming. This tutorial will acquaint attendees with these protocols and their capabilities and limitations for professional uses.
