AIEMPro workshop 2008

The first International Workshop on Automated Information Extraction in Media Production (AIEMPro), sponsored and organised by EBU’s Project Group P/SCAIE members, was held in conjunction with the 19th edition of the Database and Expert Systems Applications (DEXA 2008).

Helping educate

The workshop content was aimed at helping broadcast technical staff understand the relevance and potential of automatic information extraction techniques in media production.

P/SCAIE's chair Alberto Messina summarised: "I think we achieved significant progress in the appraisal of the impact of such technologies on new television and other media production models. But this is just a first step in a long march. There still is a lot of traditional thinking in our industry." The next AIEMPro is planned for 2009.
